The Kyogle Classic is a gravel event shaped by terrain, distance and a strong sense of place.

This is country that asks something of you – and gives plenty back in return.

Set among the rolling hills, rainforest pockets and quiet backroads of Northern New South Wales, the Kyogle Classic is designed to balance challenge with enjoyment — rewarding steady effort with flowing descents and long stretches of uninterrupted riding.

The event will feature two course options, each capturing the character of the region in different ways:

  • A longer main course of 110km+, designed as the centrepiece of the event and a true test of endurance

  • A shorter course of approximately 50km, offering a more achievable option while still delivering the essence of Kyogle’s terrain and riding

Final distances, elevation and detailed route information are currently being finalised as part of the planning and permitting process.

Terrain & Riding Conditions

The Kyogle region offers a diverse mix of gravel roads, fire trails and quiet sealed connectors, with terrain ranging from rolling farmland to forested ranges and subtropical rainforest.

Riders can expect:

  • sustained climbs rather than sharp spikes

  • flowing descents on well-formed gravel

  • long sections of remote, low-traffic roads

Surface conditions will vary depending on weather and road maintenance in the months leading up to the event, and participants should be prepared for changing conditions on the day.

Course Access & Navigation

Once finalised, courses will be:

  • clearly communicated ahead of the event

  • made available as GPX files

  • supported with downloadable maps and route information

All routes are subject to final confirmation pending discussions with local council and relevant land managers.

Support on Course

The Kyogle Classic is planned as a semi-supported event.

Water and basic refuelling will be available at designated points along the course. Participants will be required to be self-sufficient for extended sections, carrying sufficient water, nutrition and basic spares.

Event staff and mobile support will be positioned throughout the course, with first aid available in case of emergency. Full support details will be confirmed closer to the event.

Bike Selection

There is no single “ideal” bike for the Kyogle Classic — suitability will depend on rider preference, experience and expected conditions.

Gravel Bikes
Well suited to much of the terrain, offering efficiency on rolling roads and longer climbs. Tyre clearance of 35mm or greater is recommended.

Mountain Bikes
Provide additional stability and comfort, particularly for riders prioritising control on descents or those newer to off-road riding.

Hybrid / Custom Builds
Some riders may opt for setups that sit between gravel and MTB, prioritising comfort, reliability and tyre choice over outright speed.

Whatever the bike, reliability and familiarity matter more than marginal gains.

Checkpoints

Checkpoint locations and services are currently being assessed as part of course planning.

Once confirmed, checkpoints will provide:

  • water

  • basic nutrition

  • event staff support

Details will be published once the final course design is approved.

Course Maps & Downloads

Course maps, GPX files and supporting information will be released once planning and approvals are complete.

Please note: Final details relating to routes, distances and event format are subject to final planning and permitting approvals.
