The course features two checkpoints. The first is located at Blackbutt Lookout (55 km) with water, snacks, toilets and spectacular views across the Border Ranges. The second is located at Lynchs Creek Public Hall (86 km) with water, snacks and toilets.

There are no checkpoints on this course, so riders should carry sufficient water and nutrition for the ride.
Please note: The 32 km may be our shortest course, but it still delivers a genuine gravel adventure. A rewarding climb leads to a beautiful ridgeline before a fast sealed descent returns riders to Kyogle. Riders should be comfortable climbing, descending and riding on roads shared with traffic. Before You Ride
The Kyogle Classic is an authentic gravel cycling event showcasing the spectacular roads and forests surrounding Kyogle. While riders can choose between three course options, don't underestimate the terrain. Even the shorter courses feature sustained gravel climbs and remote back-country roads.
The 110 km course is a challenging day on the bike with approximately 2,700 metres of climbing. Riders will experience rolling farmland, quiet gravel roads, sub-tropical rainforest and ancient Antarctic Beech forests, remnants of the Gondwana rainforest. The 46 km and 32 km courses offer shorter and more accessible options while still delivering the same spectacular scenery and genuine gravel riding experience.
The courses are suitable for gravel bikes, cyclocross bikes and mountain bikes. Riders choosing a road bike should ensure adequate tyre clearance, with 35 mm tyres or wider recommended.
Surface conditions will vary depending on recent weather and road maintenance. Riders should expect a mixture of sealed roads, well-maintained gravel roads and occasional rougher sections typical of regional back-country roads.
All courses will be fully marked and GPX files and Strava routes will be available prior to the event. Please note that courses may be subject to change pending final approvals or weather conditions.
The event is semi-supported with water and refuelling stops along the way. Riders should be comfortable riding independently through remote areas and will need to be self-sufficient for large sections of the course, carrying sufficient water, nutrition, spare tubes and basic repair equipment.
A sag wagon will follow the riders, sweeping the course, and event first aid will be available in the event of an emergency.
Bike Selection
Gravel Bikes
Gravel bikes are the ideal choice for most riders and will offer the fastest overall experience across all three courses. We recommend tyres of 40 mm or wider. Riders looking for additional comfort and stability may prefer 45–50 mm tyres, particularly on the longer courses.
Mountain Bikes
Mountain bikes are an excellent option, particularly for riders newer to gravel riding or those prioritising comfort over outright speed. The additional gearing and stability will be appreciated on the longer climbs and faster gravel descents.
Build the Bike You Love
One of the best parts of gravel riding is there are no hard rules. Some riders will line up on lightweight race gravel bikes, others on hardtail mountain bikes, and a few will arrive on their own custom dream machines built specifically for events like the Kyogle Classic. Ride the bike you know best and enjoy the adventure.
